What is The Split Brain?

What do you think of when someone speaks of mental illness? It is probably some homeless guy in tethered clothes sitting on the street corner or a park bench having an in depth conversation with people who are not there, or perhaps, an image of a person strapped in a straight jacket getting pulled away by orderlies in white coats. With either image conceived of in your mind, you will either get slightly creeped out or perhaps wither in fear. This is the image of a mentally ill person in America and most parts of the world. Have you ever considered that perhaps the person sitting next you in your office or the person standing in line in front of you at a cafe have mental illness issues? I mean, they get up, go to work, and spend time with their families just like you so everything has to be okay, right? That is not so.

There are millions of people in this country who carry the burden of dealing with mental health issues. I am one of them. I have schizo affective disorder, a mean mixture of bipolar and schizophrenic symptoms. It is a challenge I live with everyday, and going on in a world that does not understand nor cares to understand can be very difficult. I am not alone. Tireless amounts of other people can have schizophrenia, ptsd, depression or a myriad of other conditions which cannot be easily detected/ See, I am considered a "high functioning" mentally ill person. I do have symptoms of a condition but nonetheless I can keep coherent and live a normal life, which does have many ups and downs. So, living with a condition gives a unique perspective on it, so I want to be an advocate for people who harbor problems stemming from mental illness and perhaps give them a voice for the world to hear.
